Design Brief: Design a Bicycle Helmet

In the absence of a rigid commercial brief, this project evolved into a rigorous form study. The objective was to translate the visual vocabulary of Balenciaga into a piece of protective sports equipment. The design language acts as a bridge between two distinct eras: the sculptural precision of Cristóbal Balenciaga and the gritty, utilitarian subversion of Demna Gvasalia.

The aesthetic foundation is rooted in the symbolism of the color black—referencing the "Black" of the Spanish Renaissance used by Cristóbal to convey status and shadow. This historical rigor is disrupted by the influence of Demna’s early inspirations: the brutalist, functionalist design of German police leather jackets and the raw energy of underground subcultures.

The project culminates in a direct translation of the Winter 2020 Spike Jacket. By adapting its aggressive, over-proportioned geometry, the helmet transcends traditional sports aesthetics. It adopts a silhouette that is both a protective shell and a cultural statement, merging the "extreme" nature of the sport with the "extreme" proportions of modern high-fashion.
